Above New York to Rome - photo presentation

Nowadays watching the world from above is not a big deal. With Internet services such as Google Earth we can view tourists in Times Square or penguins in Antarctica from our desk at home. Still, there’s something about those aligned satellite and aerial photos which lacks character. Thus, taking a look out of an airplane window while flying from here to there can reveal sights that cannot be seen elsewhere even in this techno era.

This time we shall embark a flight from Newark airport near New York to Fiumicino airport near Rome. The flight started May 25th afternoon, and landed May 26th in the morning. The following photo presentation contains images seen from the window during that flight.

The European Mountain Bike Championship Haifa 2010

The European Mountain Bike Championship XCO 2010 has ended today in Haifa, Israel. 26 national teams with 200 riders participated in the competitions, that took place in a recently inaugurated course on the slopes of Mount Carmel. Thousands of spectators enjoyed viewing superb riding skills on the background of the blue Mediterranean sea.

Watch the pictures gallery from the last day of the championship, featuring the Elite races, won by Jaroslav Kulhavy from Czech Republic and Katrine Leumann from Switzerland.

We all like to admire places from viewpoints, whether natural or man made. This presentation is a journey-quiz through sights seen from man made towers in various countries.
First, you’ll see the place photographed from above. You’ll have to name the place and the tower from which it was photographed. The next slide will reveal the structure and the place. Three out of ten of the places included in the presentation appear below…

Bulgaria Mountainous tour - 2002

"How did you get here?” The lady guide of the Israeli group asked me, puzzled, when she spotted an Israeli guy in Plovdiv.

"Well – with an airplane…” I responded.

"Yes… but – you travel here all by yourself ???” she asked, totally shocked.

Well – being a backpacker in Bulgaria in 2002 was not a common phenomenon. I did met a German cyclist though. But other than that - independent tourism was not a big deal there. Making things more difficult logistically, but the reward was amazing. Meeting locals, being invited by locals to sleep and eat, seeing nature at its best, and enjoying very cheap prices. Two weeks of trip cost only 250US$…

It was the end of the summer, and my last chance to visit the mountains of Bulgaria before winter starts. Weather was great, and hiking in the Rila, Pirin and Rodopi ranges was one of the best mountain experiences I’ve had. Add the great local hospitality and the tasty Shopska salad, and you get a recipe for a great trip. In this photo journal we shall also climb to Vihren Peak, at 2914 meters, visit the wonderful village of Shiroka Loka, the cities Plovdiv and Sofia, Trigrad Canyon, Eco Park, Bansko (before it became a major ski resort) and more…

Romania Model 1999

Following family roots, we embarked on a week journey to Romania in April 1999. It was a voyage back in time even then, although the big boom of the new century changed mainly the capital.

Join a journey through Romania’s rural areas as well as some more familiar urban places, and meet its landscapes and people. The photos were captured on slides film, and transforming them into digital files created a texture that matches the atmosphere…

EFI Gala event, Brussels

A significant event aimed at developing a closer relationship between the European Union and Israel was launched in Brussels on September 13, 2006. “European Friends of Israel (EFI)” unites those European and EU member state parliamentarians who wish to deepen the ties between the two.
I was invited to participate in the event by presenting Israel’s treasures via my photography works.

Tam Güneş tutulması - Total Solar Eclipse - Turkey 2006

On March 26th, 2006, a total solar eclipse was visible from the Mediterranean cost of Turkey.
Thousands arrived to this area to witness one of Mother Nature’s great spectacles.
These pictures were taken about 30 kilometers East of Antalya.
