Syange, 15 Years Later - Annapurna Circuit Revisited

During the spring of 1996 I trekked the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal. In the autumn of 2011 I returned to visit a part of this trek, and discovered that heavy tourism development along the trail changed the area dramatically, making the encounter disappointing. But an exciting visit in the village of Syange left an enjoyable feeling after all. I brought with me photos I took at the 1996 trip, and locals started to identify their friends and relatives…

In this film we shall visit the village of Syange, try to meet people we have met 15 years before, and compare photos of the village to see how it has changed in these 15 years…

Mount Manaslu is 8163 meters high and the 8th highest mountain in the world. A lovely long trek surrounds this mountain and offers superb views of its range. The village of Lho, at ~3200 meters, offers one of the best view points to Manaslu. The mountain provides a majestic background to the village which is dominated by a large Gompa.
