Syange, 15 Years Later – Annapurna Circuit Revisited

posted in: East Asia, Nepal

During the spring of 1996 I trekked the Annapurna Circuit in Nepal. In the autumn of 2011 I returned to visit a part of this trek, and discovered that heavy tourism development along the trail changed the area dramatically, making the encounter disappointing. But an exciting visit in the village of Syange left an enjoyable feeling after all. I brought with me photos I took at the 1996 trip, and locals started to identify their friends and relatives…

In this film we shall visit the village of Syange, try to meet people we have met 15 years before, and compare photos of the village to see how it has changed in these 15 years…

It’s clear that development and an increased standard of life has both positive and negative aspects, however your video is clearly skewed towards the negative aspects only.

You criticise the development and roads, but use the road to access the village. This is rather hypocritical.
