Almaty, the largest city of Kazakhstan and its former capital, has an inviting urban appeal. That’s in spite of the fact that many of its residential areas were built during the soviet period as public and cooperative housing blocks. Apartment blocks of Almaty have interesting designs and decorations, including precast ornaments, creating quite a varied collection of facades. Together with a simple orthogonal grid of streets and vast amount of trees, Almaty’s modernist living environment is generally unique and attractive.
