During the regime of the communist leader Enver Hoxha in Albania, hundreds of thousands of bunkers were built all around Albania to protect the country from the worst enemies. After Hoxha’s death in 1985 bunkers were no longer built, and gradually abandoned. Most of them were removed from urban areas, but rural Albania is teeming with these steel and concrete domed structures that tell the story of turbulent times.
The following video clip was shot in two locations in northern Albania: Shores of Lake Skadar (or Shkodra or Shkodër) and Valley of Valbonë.
